Dutch banks and foreign land acquisitions
Nearly all Dutch banks invest in companies that acquire land outside the EU and operate in high risk sectors such as agriculture, forestry and biofuels. Land acquisitions often cause the local community to be deprived of its land and resources. This research project for the Dutch Fair Bank Guide concludes that most banks do not enough to prevent this. Their policies must give more specific attention to possible human rights violations in connection to land acquisitions, by demanding from companies to apply the principle of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

The Great European Landgrab
This report looks at the European footprint for feeds and fuels. The EU uses over 16 million hectares every year. Most of this land is in South America. The production of soy (needed for these feeds and fuels) lead to deforestation, and is associated with environmental degradation, increased pesticide use, violence and human rights abuses of local communities and farmers, and rising food insecurity.
